American Luncheon

When you are in a new country and someone from back home is talking to you for the first time afer you have been here, the things whihc they gonna ask about are about the living, climate n food.the experience of food in the IIT hostels in delhi is kinda sickening bcos of very obvious reasons which most of you know......when i was about to leave to US my parenst were like....."Nayi desh mein ja raha hai...patha nahi kya khayega n stuff"....my dad was wlayws at the back of me asking me to learn how to cook n stuff...but i was not atall worried...bcos i always felt ki agar thodi si common sense ho tho its not that hard to cook.......Now when i landed here.......the first thing i ate was dal rice n it was great....all credit goes to Mr.Shyam Matravadi my senior and now one of my roomies here.........(will come back to him later)....our lunches here in US used to be mostly Slice(which is a 1/8th of a large plane cheese pizza).......everyone of my friends used to get bored eating these stuff.........by the way its great athat all of us friends do take lunch together........we have a great time during the lunch........yeah coming back....being bored of eating the same slice day after day.......we started to get home cooked food.......having alot of girls in the grp is advantageous in that way,ki woh log roz achcha khana bana ke laathe hain..........thou' they r not that cooks(ooops jaldi mien sach bol diya.....ab agle 2-3 din ke liye muje lunch nahi milega)..........i too get home made food some time...........
now lets get to in person....lemme start with Shyam.....who0m i think is the best cook i know here in all my friends grp......what ever he maks i amazing....the tamatar ka achar....any damn sabzi......and being a telugu guy he cooks alot of telulgu foods which u might not be knowing.......next comes Rajesh my other roommates.....he cooks really well too....then comes the girls......Poonam,Devika,Amee,Gauravi.........allof them are roomies and cook together...i dont know who does what but.....they too cook great........then its my other roommates Kiran.....he is Non-VEg specialist........the onlything he can cook is anythign non-veg and the stuff he cooks is incredible...........next is Ashwini(again my senior and like an elder sis to me) gets these sabzi n parantha for lunch which are really great......then its hardik's mom(hardik is my senior too).......he gets the lunch cooked by his mom........cool that he lives with his mom here......akhir maa ka haath ke khane ka kya jawaab hai..........apart from these......the stuff which we cook at home.....i cant even imagine if anyone comnig to US for MS has ever cooked them.......we make all kinds of sweets, achars, powders, masalas etc etc at home......man if we show what all stuff we eat here to our parents.....they will stop worrying once and for all time..........
Apart from these.......we go out and have dinner's at times on Lexington Avenue which has alot of Desi Restaurants all along........
Wanted to make this blog shor n interesting....dont kow how it turned out guys........
Anyways........as always expecting Comments.......
Take Care

The NewYork Subway

NewYork "the Business capital of the World"......."the city that never sleeps" has some amzing things about itself.....one of it being the Subway system which is the most reliable commutation means for almost all classes of NYC people........daily around a million people travel by the subways........The Subways were first introduced in 1904..........100 years have passed and now its the biggest subway system in the whole world.

Lemme tell ya how a typical NewYork Subway Bougie looks like.......(the stuff need not necessarly be in the very same bougie)........The Subway train enters the station(most of which r underground)....the doors open and people get in,everyone eager to find a seat for themselves......but alas all of them are occupied.....so i find a place for my self to stand at one of the corners......then the Train driver or the conductor annouces.."******** is the next station and stand clear we r closing door"....then the train starts moving.....now starts the whole funny story......u will find al kinda people in the subway.....most of them involved in reading a novel or a newspaper or a magazine.......then comes an old chinese guy with a bag full of DVD's saying "DhiVDhi-DhiVDhi" in his own chinese accent.......then at some other corner there is this kid crying for something and his mom becoming restless and giving him a tight slap.........inbetween enter a grp of three dancers calling for everyone's attention and making some decent enuf space for themselves......and then they start dancing like knuts believe me they dance really very very well........while they r perfoming here gets up a European traveller with her camera and starts taking pics of them....(if you find someone taking such kinda pictures the u can be sure for 90% that he /she is a European traveller).......after they r done with their performance.......they start collecting money from the gracefull doner who feel that their performance was good........and then there is this old man shouting at another corner, holding a bible in his hand, saying that...Jesus is the only hope for u to live...Believe in Jesus and stuff like that........now the interestnig stuff to most of u guys n gals.........sitting beside each other or say almost in each others laps a pair licking each other........"publicly"....no one bothers.....initially i used to feel alot uncomfortable when i used to see such kinda stuff live....but now i got used to it.......its most common here.......while all this stuff is goin on i have to get down bcos my destination arrives.......
The next time i get on a subway......if not everthing which i mentioned but some of the stuff i mentioned will surely repeat.........
Anyways please leave your comments guys.....i feel it dint turn out as good as i wishes bcos i was in a hurry while writing the blog......
Take Care..

Garbha at NYU and Archery Debut

Being in US and happening to be(atleast pretending to be) busy with acads at school,I have not been aware of the Indian festivals.I got to know about the upcoming Dussera or Vijayadasimi or Durga puja or Navarathri (as it is called in different parts in India) only i enquired why my Non Veg eating friends stopped eating non-veg.

The Dussera or Vijayadasimi as we used to call in Andhra pradesh used to exciting when i was a kid,the reason being that,it was th only day when the families of the employees at ECIL(My dad's office) were allowed into their campus. The very thought of it used to make me happy, the sole reason of that being that i can use the typewriter or if there was a chance play some computer games. Now when i remember about that i feel very silly,at the same time i feel "come on afterall i was a child".After joining IIT Durga puja(as it was called in Delhi) either was a short vacation of 4-6 days which included a weekend for which we used to come home.I came home for two of the four such vacations. The other two times we planned to go for the Navarathri garbha celebrations but never did bcos of our laziness.

Now my first Navarthri in US,we planned to go to NYU for their Garbha celebrations. But this time we did turnup. Thanks to Alpesh's friend Pratik for inviting all of us(Me,Alpesh,Nirav,Salil,Koushik,Amrish,Poonam,Devika,Amee n Gouravi). All of us got dressed up in traditional ware.(Yes guys me in Kurtha and Pyjama). We reached there on time and pratik received us.But u know, being an Indian party it must follow IST,so it started late.During this time we had the opportunity of sitting in the Lounge of NYU on the 9th floor which has an amazing view of the Manhattan Skyline. We went in paying an entree fee of $9.

As soon as we entered i searched for what everyone does...........ooh come on u must have guessed it....yes,it is food. There were Samosas,Bajji,Cookies,Chocolates,Juice and Soda(our Indian Cooldrink with a fancy name). All of us munched on the available stuff.People who came in there were already dancing around the arena. Some of them practising on the corners.Crowd started to pour in as time passed.Everyone was dancing and singing and believe me it really was a festive atmosphere. My friends Alpesh,Nirav n Devika wanted to join the dancing group but i dont know why, they initially dint. Then the actual program started. The organizers(ICE-Indian Cultural Exchange) introduced themselves and then there were a couple of performances by the NYU Garbha team(their Debut performance) and the Bhangra team(supposed to be the best Bhangra team in the Tri-State Area). They were really very very amazing.

After these performances there was Dhandiya followed by Bhangra where anyone can dance. All this while i have been eyeing all the DESI girls(most of them ABCD).Though we can't compare,it reminded me of Rendezvous. It really was a treat for my Eyes with all these well dressed up girls, dancing. There were also non DESI people i mean Non Indians who turned up who wanted to learn the dance and know about our culture. It really made me very happy to know how well respected and valued our culture is.All the ABCDs who are born and brought up here give so much value to our customs and traditions.I really salute you all Guys n Gals."Hats-off to you".

During all this i had some misunderstanding with someof my friends bcos of which i did not participate in the dancing and stuff though all my friends insisted me to do so.I am really very very sorry for being such an idiot and behaving rudely with you guys.I sincerely apologize.
The next day afternoon me and Shyam went to Archery Arena to do some archery practise. That was the first time i was in a real archery arena.Though i used to play with some small home made bow n arrow, this experience was really amazing. My performance there was decent enuf of the first time.

Phew...i always think of writing a small blog, but end up writing a biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiig one.Sorry guys. But thankyou for reading it patiently. I really expect comments from you.So who so ever reads this blog completely please leave a comment. Please dont write anonymous comment, mention who you are,i really would like you to comment you with a critical view,no matter how harsh they are. Will be waiting for your comments.
Thanking you once again.
Adieu...:)
